Cataract Surgery for Gilda

Recently Carlos came to us desperate and asking for help. “My mom is losing her eyesight more and more. Soon she won’t be able to see at all. Is there any way you can help us get her the surgery she needs?”

They had gone to an eye doctor who diagnosed cataracts in both eyes caused by the complications of diabetes which his mom, Gilda, has suffered with for 18 years. The cost of the surgery – $800 US dollars per eye.

We have known Carlos for years, ever since he started coming to our Las Alitas center as a young boy. He has grown into a fine young man and is currently studying to get his degree to become a teacher. He is due to graduate this month.

Carlos’s dad works in a factory in Juarez. His mom used to work in a factory, too, until the loss of her eyesight forced her to quit. Carlos has one brother who is also in school, so the dad is the sole provider for the family.

We used to have an ophthalmologist who did cataract surgeries for the poor at no cost, but he is now retired. However, we assured Carlos and Gilda that we would do what we can to make sure she gets this very necessary and urgent surgery.

Please keep this intention in your prayers.

God bless you!
