You may remember us telling you about a generous benefactor who donated a field of artificial turf for our youth center in Juarez called Las Alitas. The turf was unloaded in our parking lot in El Paso and there it waited for over two years before we could get it across the border.
With everything set to go, we rented a forklift to load the massive rolls of turf into the semi truck that would take it across to Mexico. The children had been praying faithfully and waiting impatiently for their soccer field that we had promised them and finally the day arrived. They greeted the semi with shouts of joy and jubilation. The turf company sent workers to help us lay the field, and it was a group effort to get it set up and ready for play. But it was well worth the wait and it has been in steady use ever since.
Next month I’ll share with you some of the ways this beautiful new field has impacted the lives of the young people in this poor and depressed section of Juarez, Mexico.
