A fundamental goal of ours is to improve the lives of children in impoverished circumstances. We focus on ensuring they get nourishing meals, a good education, and opportunities for sports and recreation and to grow in their faith. We run many different programs to encompass those objectives, and as you can imagine, it gets costly. But the Lord is so faithful, and we have witnessed Him provide repeatedly for our needs in surprising and unexpected ways.
Some months ago, we heard about a teacher named Imelda, who had run a Montessori catechism program for many years but was forced to stop after being diagnosed with cancer. She stored all the furniture and supplies, hoping to be able to start up again, but was never able to do so. Different teachers had approached her over the years to buy the items from her, but she never sold them.
After seven years of waiting, she decided it was time to let go of her dream of re-starting. However, she wanted to find somewhere to donate all the material—hopefully where it would be used to help children in need. Someone told us about Imelda and we reached out to her. “Can you come right away?” she asked. Yes! When we arrived, she told us, “For seven years, I was trying to find someone I could train to take over the program, but nobody wanted to. And now, the same day we get in touch with each other, you come!” She was so happy to know that we would be crossing the items into Mexico to use in our classrooms there.
Lorena, who picked up the donation, said, “Since God sent us this gift, we need to be ready because He is going to send us more children to sit in these chairs.” And He is sending them. We have more kids enrolled this year than ever before.
