Overcoming Obstacles to Get an Education

Meet Tanya Ortiz Guzman. She has grown up around the Lord’s Food Bank in Juarez, Mexico, and is an intelligent and determined girl.

Tanya has had more than her share of hardships. Her mother died when Tanya was only 3 years old, so she and her two siblings have been raised by their grandmother since their father abandoned them. Tanya was born deaf and is mute. But that hasn’t stopped her from pursuing her education. She loves to study and learn and has completed middle school. She just started high school this semester.

Tanya attends a school for students with special needs, and this year she is required to have a laptop or a tablet of her own for her studies. This was out of the question for her grandmother to provide, since she struggles to make ends meet, so they came to us for help.

We found her a laptop to use. When we can, we are always happy to help hardworking students who are serious about getting an education. And Tanya has definitely proved herself to be that.
