Last month, we had some wonderful celebrations at the Lord’s Food Bank in Juarez. We celebrated Dia de los Niños (Children’s Day) with things our kids really enjoy—jumping balloons and eating pizza. They had a great time sliding, jumping, and having fun, and the adults enjoyed watching their great delight.
On Mother’s Day (always celebrated on May 10th in Mexico), we honored the women who serve so generously at the Food Bank in so many ways. They prepare meals, clean, serve the patients who come to our medical and dental clinic, prepare groceries for the weekly distribution, teach catechism – the list could go on and on.
These ladies are the backbone for so much of what we do to help those who come seeking our services. We are very grateful for their dedication, love and selfless service. Some of them are moms to biological and adopted children, and all of them are spiritual mothers.
There is much that is hard and painful in the lives of those who live in this area riddled with violence and poverty, so whenever we can inject some joy and celebration, we love to do that. It lifts everyone’s spirits and reminds us that the joy of the Lord is our strength.
